WestJet Sees Growth, Moving into Long Haul Competition

BRONX | NEW YORK | July 30 – WestJet the Canadian airlines, held their annual shares holders meeting yesterday at the company’s headquarters in Calgary; where the airlines announced its 37th consecutive profitable quarter, and saw earnings up 18% to $51.8 million. No doubt WestJet has been seeing a lots of green, that’s why it’s the color of their logo.

With the airline continued success with both regional and mainline flights, the airline is carrying more and more passengers resulting into cash and when your Canada second largest airline, you have to find ways to grow even bigger, and ways WestJet is looking at growth is, international travel, and wide-body service, the airline is planning to enter the long haul competition. WestJet announced they will add four Boeing 767-300ER medium to long haul jets by winter of 2015.

The four Boeing 767 aircraft’s will be equip with winglets.  WestJet plans to operate the aircraft on the Alberta and Hawaii during the winter season. Following, WestJet expects to expand its operation into overseas markets starting in the summer of 2016. Thomas Cook Airlines currently operates two Boeing 757 on behalf of WestJet between Alberta and Hawaii, however this operation will be ending in the spring of 2015; so WestJet can begin operation wide-body service.

WestJet also plans to show Encore some love as they spread the money around WestJet is exercising their option to purchase five more Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 NextGen aircraft. WestJet Encore is a subsidiary airline of WestJet Airlines LTD. Operating regional flights around Canada and the United States.

According to Sisc. WestJet Airlines operates more than 400 daily departures to the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Caribbean. Operating a fleet of more than 120 aircraft. WestJet mainline service operates only Boeing NG (next Generation) 737, including all types excluding the -900 variant. As were Encore operates a fleet of 15 Bombardier Q400 models. WestJet main headquarters at Calgary International Airport, the airline largest hub with over 93 daily departures followed by Toronto Pearson International Airport.
