LOS ANGELES LAKERS
SMADE Sports (Oct. 28th 2014) | The Houston Rockets open up its season with an 18 point blowout win over the Los Angeles Lakers; James Harden was the game leading scorer with 32 points and 6 assist ; Harden was living at both the 3 point line where he shot 3/6 and the free throw line where he made 15/16 free throws attempts. The Rockets as a team left 16 points at the free throw line shooting 34/50 – 68%. Dwight Howard shot 7/16 which means that the rest of the team left 7 points at the free throw line; any team with Dwight Howard are any dominant force up front with poor free throw skills will take that. Dwight Howard, however, was definitely dominant last night, he paid the way for James Harden and the Rockets scoring; Dwight controls the paint early grabbing rebounds and scoring down low at will, with no one to stop him. Dwight was able to control the paint throughout the rest of the way, he was later tossed in the 4th Quarter over an elbow to Kobe’s face; that turned into a little scuffle between the two former teammates; which lead to Kobe calling Dwight Howard soft. Dwight Howard finishes the night with 11 rebounds and 13 points, his first double-double of the season. Jones and Arzia added 16 points each at the starting forward spot. Jones finished the game with 13 rebounds for the Rockets, a game high.
The Los Angeles Lakers, on the other hand, played just the way we thought they would, like a team that is going to rely on Kobes 36-year-old legs that just came off 2 of the biggest injuries to his career. Kobe Bryant played like himself with 19 points on 6/17 shooting in 29mins, Black Mamba miss his only 3 point attempt of the night. Fresh Laker Charlos Boozer added 17 points on 7/13 shooting; 3/3 from the free throw line. Jeremy Lin added 7 points on 1/5 shooting with 6 assist and 4 costly turnover. Ed Davis and Jordan Clarkson came off the bench to added 19 points, Davis with 11 and Clarkson with 8.
In the end, the Lakers end up losing more than just by 18 points, they lost their young top rookie prospect Julius Randle, the 7th overall pick in lost year draft to a broken foot. The injury came during the 4th Quarter on a drive to the basket by Randle who seems to come down on his foot pretty awkwardly, he was left off the court by his teammates with his leg wrapped up, as he was being carted out the arena Kobe whispered some words of wisdom to their young star. We here at SMADE Sports wish Julius Randle a speedy recovery.
